First Impression:
Ruby Day is the star of Ruby's Diary, a single girl site which the tour describes as "the thinking person's adult site with truly unique and utterly special soft and hardcore porn". Ruby herself is a natural redhead with blue-green eyes and a nice body. She has a brief welcome video and the gallery section of the tour shows a variety of thumbs. Pics are often done in either vintage pinup or fetish erotica styles and Ruby herself wears a variety of latex and leather fetish clothes, lingerie and casual outfits - and sometimes nothing at all.
Review:
The Ruby's Diary member area has navigation links running across the page near the top and beneath on the left is a scrolling list of her updates. While updates are frequent, they are also small most of the time - while there were 10 updates last month, only 1 was a video update and 2 were 5-pic updates shot with a cell phone. Still, Ruby's members do get to see something new regularly, and that's a good thing.
The movies here are QuickTime, shown in an embedded player. They're shown at a screen size of 640x352 and are good quality - the site claims a bitrate of between 1000 and 2000 kbps. They're not downloadable, so I was unable to confirm the bitrate, but it sounds about right judging by the look of the videos. The videos I watched had good sound and played smoothly - in fact, the only issue I had is that I don't care for embedded QuickTime players. The first video crashed my Firefox and I had to watch further movies in Internet Explorer.
There are a total of 39 photo galleries inside Ruby's Diary - 22 Photo Diary galleries and 17 Art Erotica galleries. There's also 70 pics of Ruby taken with a cell phone.
The Photo Diary is described as "Adventures w/ Short Narratives". What they are is regular thumbnailed galleries with a brief description or comment by Ruby. Pics here are large - shown at around 1280x853 - and the photo quality is good. As galleries go, these are a little on the small side, many having less than 30 pics total. There are no slideshows or downloadable zip files offered.
The action in the Photo Diary section is mostly posed stuff. You'll find Ruby in the shower wearing rubber gloves, Ruby in the kitchen mixing batter while naked, Ruby posing in an abandoned house, Ruby standing and pulling her panties aside while wearing underwear. There is one pic set of Ruby giving a footjob - there's no cumshot - and a couple where the lighting and colors of the pics make them look vintage, one where she is tied up wearing a strap-on and another where she is lying face down with a buttplug in her ass. For the most part, there's not a lot of action in each pic set nor is there much pink, but there is a whole lot of Ruby and her perky tits.
The Art Erotica galleries are smaller galleries, most with between 5 and 11 images. There are a lot of Photoshop effects added to these pics - for example, in one set all the reds have been brightened and in another the pics are red and black. There's an attempt to be very artistic here. One pic is a large pic of Ruby's eye, there's a black and white set where the background has been removed, Ruby has a dark halo around her and then all the pics are deliberately made grainy. There's a lot of repeating of certain poses and shots here. Still, if you like fetish and erotic photography, you may find something here.
The cell phone pics are shown with 5 pics from each shoot. There are 14 shoots total, mostly casual pics of Ruby in the bathroom, in bed and so on. If you want to get a real feel for what Ruby is like, the cell phone pics are a much better place to do it than her bio.
Ruby's journal is frequently updated and includes some pics. She talks about her life and her work and her opinions. She seems to be a stripper, and is also into fetish modeling and other stuff. She discusses her career in adult and politics. There are some sexy stories, some of which involve a pic. Unfortunately Ruby's Diary does not allow members to leave comments on the journal entries, which would have allowed Ruby a chance to interact more with her fans and members.
The Ruby's Diary videos and photos are often shot to be art, and honesty they aren't bad, but I've seen more fully realized artistic attempts. While overall I'd consider the photography and quality here to be good amateur quality, I feel that the claims of academia and of being for the thinking person are exaggerated. There's nothing here that you wouldn't find in any other single girl site - and that's not a bad thing.
Summary:
Ruby's Diary is off to a good start. The site is on the small side, but there are frequent small updates as well as offering regular long journal updates. The videos are good quality and like a lot of single girl sites, many of the videos are under 5 minutes in duration. Many of the photo sets are also on the small side, but the good amateur quality and photography offset the repetition in the poses.
